Peach Festival 2008 Wrapup:
Great Peaches, Cool Treats
and Cyclists Galore

The great Parker County Peach Festival has come and gone. This year’s festival was a great success. The city of Weatherford hosted more than 30,000 guests for the annual festival. This year’s great success would not have been possible if not for our many volunteers and sponsors.

First National Bank of Weatherford was the title sponsor for this year’s Parker County Peach Festival. They handed out water to guests throughout the day. They showed James & The Giant Peach in their lobby for a chance for people to cool off and get off their feet. First National Bank of Weatherford had wheelchairs from Healthline, and the Mobile Command Unit was stationed in their parking with a great view of the entire festival grounds.

Thanks to our Big Peach Partners: Area Wide Phonebook, Eventide, Fort Worth Community Credit Union, Plains Capital Bank, Texas Oncology, Unite Wireless, Weatherford National Bank, Weatherford New Car Dealers, Weatherford Regional Medical Center, and Weatherford Telegram.

Sherry Watters designed our annual one-of-a-kind T-shirts. The Weatherford Rotary Club drove the golf carts that helped people get to and from their cars with all their goodies and fresh produce. We would like to thank Texas Gas Services and Wyatt Irby for picking up trash, painting fire hydrants, weed eating, and making Weatherford look great!

The remote sales booths were manned by the WHS Blue Belles, Light of the World Church, Westwood Christian Fellowship, and Sons of the Confederate Veterans. Durham Transportation shuttled our thousands of guests safely to and from the festival. The onsite ticket booths were manned by many volunteers from the WHS Blue Belles and Victory Baptist Church.

A much needed A/C tent was provided by Hobson’s Air Conditioning. A misting tent was provided by Home Depot at the corner of York and Dallas. Free water was handed out at the Oasis spots by Almost Heaven Massage Therapy and G & D Pool and Spa. Our entertainment stages were sponsored by Maverick All Star Tumblers/JumpXtreme, Sterling House, and Your Community Phonebook.

Johnnie Brooks coordinated the Diaper Derby and the Pet Show complete with ribbons and prizes and other entertainment on the Children’s Stage. Albertson’s provided prizes for the ever exciting Diaper Derby. Dorothy Glenn organized the Main Stage in First Baptist Church parking lot and Rockin R Productions brought in talent for the second stage at the corner of Spring and Waco. The entertainment stages had great local entertainment all day. First Baptist Church Men’s Ministry worked hard setting up and taking down the tents for the entertainment stages.

Albertson’s provided all the water for the Oasis Spots and the water for the police officers and transportation crews. Weatherford Fire Department and Lifecare EMS provided aid to those in need throughout the day. Weatherford Police Department provided traffic guidance that helped the day flow smoothly, and Lieutenant Mahoney helped with the arrangement and set-up of the fencing for the parameter of the festival. The Sanitation Department had the large task of keeping the festival grounds clean and free of trash during and after the festival. Terry Hughes and Kyle Lucas had the project of organizing traffic flow through town — which they did a wonderful job. Donna Tillman and her team of Pam Briles, Terri Smith and Kathleen Durham did a fantastic job working with the admission booths and assisting in money collection and change throughout the day.

Chamber staff Mandy Allison, Lydia Bertram, Dancy Crawford, Tammy Gazzola, Peggy Hutton, Kayla Masters, Virginia Mayfield, Gina Osborn, Brenda Stephens, and Ray Stephens assisted with Peach Central, vendor set-up, chamber office, and any other task that came up the day of the Festival. We had many people that helped mark booth locations on Thursday afternoon, vendor set-up Friday evening and Saturday morning, and during the festival on Saturday: Debbie Armstrong, Michael Bach, Jonelle Bartoli, Larry Bartoli, Doug Beard, Michelle Bennett, Lydia Bertram, Claudia Bowden, Rodney Crawford, Rodney Crawford, Jr., Norma Crutcher, Kaylie Crutcher, Donna Dickenson, Susan Gazzola, Cathy Hayniger, Kathy Hecox, Jennifer Hillis, Donna Longino, Cecilia Lopez, Les Lopez, Elizabeth McGee, Kenneth Mican, Cindy Mitzel, Kyle Mittendorf, Kathy Mosby, JoAnn Parker, Junior San Miquel, Mary Sheldon, Susan Sodek, Bill Stewart, Irene Wiley, and Matt Zohfeld. Weldon Torbett provided his electrical expertise for all vendors during set-up on Friday evening and Saturday during the folly of the festival. Weatherford National Bank provided a cool place for volunteers and sponsors to grab a bite to eat and some sweet Peach Tea before heading back out into the festival at their Hospitality Room.

Many businesses allowed the chamber to use their parking lots for vendors to set up, entertainment stages, remote parking, and vendor parking: Award Center, City of Weatherford, Dave Deison CPA, First Baptist Church, First Monday Grounds, First National Bank, George Morgan & Sneed, Higginbotham & Associates, Shirley Hall Middle School, Weatherford College, Weatherford 9th Grade Center, and Weatherford National Bank. The Peach Festival had many generous volunteers who gave up their Friday evening or Saturday to help with this great festival.

The Peach Pedal had a GREAT turn out with 2200 riders participating. The Pedal created a new Start/Finish Line at Weatherford High School and new routes taking riders all over the western half of Parker County. With countless hours invested, we would like to thank Brent Baker, Steve Wood, and Edwina Himes for all their hard work on making this a memorable 20th Annual Peach Pedal Bike Ride.

Thank you to all the businesses that helped make Weatherford look great the day of the festival. Your efforts made a difference for the visitors to our great community!
